Hackett Family History
Hackett Surname Meaning
English (of Norman origin): from a Norman French personal name Haket, a pet form of Old Norse Haki Hake; see Hack. English: possibly from Middle English hacaed (haket), a kind of fish, hence perhaps a nickname for someone supposed to resemble such a fish or a metonymic occupational name for a fisherman or fish seller.
Irish: the Norman surname (see 1 above) is also common in Ireland where it has been Gaelicized as Haicéid. It has also sometimes been adopted as an Anglicized form of Gaelic Mac Eachaidh (see Caughey McGaffey).
