Baskett Family History
Baskett Surname Meaning
English:: from Middle English basket ‘basket’ hence a metonymic occupational name for a basket maker or perhaps for someone who carried a basket or pannier as part of his work, for example, carrying baskets of stone to a lime kiln. In some cases, it appears to have been a topographic or habitational name referring to a house distinguished by the sign of a basket (probably owned by a basket maker).
Variant of Bascott, a habitational name from Bascote in Warwickshire, probably so named with an unattested Old English personal name Basuca + cot ‘cottage’. Possibly from an unrecorded Middle English personal name Basket, which could have been a pet form of Base (see Bass) + the Picard and Flemish double diminutive hypocoristic suffix -ket.
Compare Bosket.
