In part, Kramer is a Gottscheerish (i.e. Gottschee German) surname originating from the Kočevsko region in Lower Carniola, Slovenia (see Kocevar). Compare Kraemer.

Americanized or Germanized form of Polish Kramarz, Czech Kramář, Slovak Kramár, Slovenian (compare 3 below), Croatian, Ukrainian, and Belorussian Kramar.
