Sach Surname Meaning

From Middle English sak sach ‘sack sackcloth’ probably a name given to someone who wore an undergarment of sackcloth as a sign of mourning or as a penance or perhaps given to a maker of sacks or sackcloth (compare Sacker).

Judging by the Essex evidence the two Middle English forms were taken as equivalent and interchangeable.
