Polish and Sorbian: shortened form of Suchy or Suchi nicknames meaning ‘thin lean meager’. Alternatively from a short form of a personal name such as Sulisław based on the element sul (from Old Slavic sulijь) meaning ‘good better’.

Czech and Slovak (Šuch): probably a nickname from šuch ‘rustle (of leaves or silk)’. Compare Susko.
