U Family History
U Name Meaning
Korean: written 우 in Chinese characters 禹. Unexplained. Compare Woo Chinese: variant of Yu and Wu . Possibly also Burmese: from U a title of respect and a form of address for an adult respected man similar to English ‘mister’ or ‘sir’; its literal meaning is ‘uncle’ (u-lay or u-gyi in Burmese) but etymologically it is of the same origin as the personal name Oo — Note: This title is not used as a personal name in Burma but in the US it might have been in some cases registered (or counted in the census data) as a surname.
