Welsh: from the personal name Tudur a derivative of British Celtic Toutorīx literally ‘people’ + ‘king’. It has sometimes been taken as a Welsh equivalent of Latin Theodorus from Greek Theodōros ‘gift of God’ (see Theodore) for which the usual Welsh form is Tewdwr.

Romanian and Croatian: from the personal name Tudor a variant of Teodor (see Theodore).
