Japanese: written 高木 ‘tall tree’ especially denoting a sacred tree. It is mainly found in eastern Japan. The name originated in Kii province (presently Wakayama prefecture) location of the famous and ancient Ise Shrine. It is pronounced Takaki in the Ryūkyū Islands. The name is also written by some as 高城 ‘tall castle’ or 鷹木 ‘hawk tree’.
