Sturrock Family History

Sturrock Name Meaning

Scottish (Angus): perhaps a nickname from Gaelic stùrrach ‘rough surly in temper’ Gaelic storach ‘having broken teeth’ or Older Scots sture ‘stalwart strong stern fierce’ + Gaelic -ach -och used as an intensifying suffix in Scots words. Derivation from Scots stur(r)och ‘oatmeal mixed with milk and water porridge’ is also formally possible but the word is not recorded before the 19th century and the earliest bearers (15th-century) are of clerical and gentry status.
