This surname is also found in France (mainly Alsace and Lorraine) Hungary Poland Czechia Croatia and Slovenia. In part it is a Gottscheerish (i.e. Gottschee German) surname originating from the Kočevsko region in Lower Carniola Slovenia (see Kocevar ); compare Rauh .
