Mero Name Meaning

Galician: topographic name from Mero, a river in Galicia. Spanish and Catalan: probably a nickname from mero ‘grouper’ (the fish). Italian: possibly from mero ‘pure’, ‘sheer’ (Latin merus). Theoretically, this could also be a source of the Spanish name, but in any case it is difficult to explain its application. Hungarian (Méro): occupational name for someone who worked with scales, from méro ‘measure’, ‘measurer’, a noun derivative of mérni ‘to measure’.
