Polish and Slovenian; Czech Slovak and Rusyn (from Slovakia) (Krajník): topographic name from an adjectival derivative of kraj ‘end border’ (Slovenian krajni Czech krajní Slovak krajný) denoting e.g. someone who lived on the edge of a village. As a Slovenian surname it is also a habitational name from any of the villages called Kraj. Compare Kraynick and Kraynik .
