This achieved some popularity in France and elsewhere, being bestowed in honor of St Jerome (?347–420), creator of the Vulgate, the standard Latin version of the Bible. English (of Norman origin): from a personal name, Gerram, composed of the Germanic elements gar, ger ‘spear’ + hraban ‘raven’.
