Allocco Name Meaning
Southern Italian: nickname from allocco ‘dunce’, ‘fool’ (feminine allocca). This word is of obscure origin; it may be from Arabic alwaq (feminine lawqa, dialectally loqa), which supposedly means ‘foolish’, ‘crazy’. Compare Spanish loco ‘crazy’. In Egyptian Arabic the word means ‘having a speech defect in pronouncing the letter r’.
