Zorn Family History
Zorn Surname Meaning
German (rarely Zörn) and Jewish (Ashkenazic): nickname for a short-tempered man from Middle High German zorn German Zorn ‘wrath, anger’. German (of Slavic origin) and Jewish (Ashkenazic): nickname or metonymic occupational name from a Germanized Slavic word meaning ‘black’ (compare 3 and Cerny) or ‘grain’ (compare Zern).
Germanized form of Sorbian Čorn (or perhaps by shortening of some other surname beginning with Čorn-): nickname derived from Upper Sorbian čorny ‘black’. Slovenian: probably a nickname from an old spelling of zoren ‘early morning’, also ‘fresh’.
It is also possible but less likely that the name is of German origin (see 1 above compare Corn).
