Yetton Family History
Yetton Surname Meaning
From an unidentified place, probably one of the Yattons in Somerset, Wilts, or Herefs, in a W Midland dialect form. The Wilts and Herefs place-names derive from Old English geat ‘gate, gap’ + tūn ‘farmstead, estate’.
The Somerset place-name recorded as Jatton and Jacton in the 13th century may derive from Old English gēac ‘cuckoo’ + tūn.
