There are a number of minor places called Woodside such as Woodside in Caddington (Hertfordshire) and Woodside in Bierley (Yorkshire) though their earliest forms tend to be from late medieval or post-medieval times and so the surname is probably topographic.

In Scotland the surname is from any of several places called Woodside such as the one in Ayrs and has the same etymology.
