Wolfram Family History
Wolfram Surname Meaning
German: from the ancient Germanic personal name Wolfram composed of the elements wolf ‘wolf’ + hrafn ‘raven’. Both these creatures played an important role in ancient Germanic mythology.
They are usually represented in battle poetry as scavengers of the slain while Woden (Odin) is generally accompanied by the wolves Geri and Freki and the ravens Hugin and Munin.
English: perhaps from the Middle English female personal name Wulfrun (Old English Wulfrūn from wulf ‘wolf’ + rūn ‘secret’).
However, there is little evidence that the medieval English surname survived.
