Alternatively, it may be from the Middle English female personal name Wyburgh (Old English Wīgburg composed of the elements wīg ‘battle’ + burg ‘stronghold’).

Another possibility is that it may be a habitational name from Whyber in Morland or Wyber in Soulby (both in Westmorland). These placenames are most probably derived from Old English hwīt ‘white’ + beorg ‘hill’.
