Altered form of French Vézinat or Vésinat: topographic name from a diminutive of an Occitan equivalent of voisin ‘neighboring’ or a habitational name from Le Vézinat a place in Dordogne, in both cases ultimately from Latin vicinus ‘neighboring’, a derivative of vicus ‘village’.

The form Vésinat is no longer found in France.
