Uppington Family History

from Uppington (Shrops) which is recorded as Uppinton' in 1208–9 or perhaps from Uphampton in Ombersley (Worcs). The Shrops place-name probably derives from an Old English personal name *Uppa + Old English connective -ing- + tūn ‘farmstead estate’. For the Worcs place-name see Upperdine.

Some of the post-medieval bearers may belong under (2) for someone who lived ‘(up in the) village’ from Middle English up in the tun Old English upp in tūne.
