Tufton Surname Meaning
Primarily from Tufton Place in Northiam (Sussex), the home of Matilda de Tuktone in 1332, but also from Tufton (Hants), which is recorded as Tokinton in 1189–99 and Tuketon in 1256.
The Sussex place-name may derive from the Old English personal name Tucca + Old English tūn ‘farmstead estate’.
The Hants place-name derives from the Old English personal name Tucca in the genitive case Tuccan + Old English tūn or Tucca + Old English connective -ing- + tūn.
