Altered form under the French influence in LA of German Trischl a variant of Drischel itself probably a derivative of Driesch a topographic name from Middle Low German drēsch drīsch ‘uncultivated land serving as pasture’ for someone who lived near such field.

The surname Triche is also found among African Americans. In Germany the original surname is today very rare (in both possible forms Trischl and Trischel). Compare Trichel.

In some cases possibly also French: from Old French triche ‘trickery deception’ or written Triché from the past participle of tricher ‘to trick or deceive’.

Both surnames which are very rare in France may have denoted a cheat or a cunning deceitful person.
