Tregunna Family History

Tregunna Surname Meaning

From Tregunno (Breage) and possibly also from Tregunna (Saint Breock), Tregonna (Little Petherick), and Tregona (Saint Eval), all in Cornwall. The place-names are derived from Cornish tre meaning ‘estate farmstead’ plus an unidentified element, possibly a given name in Old Cornish *Con- with c mutated to g after the feminine word tre.

However, it is not necessarily the same given name in each case. There may also be connections to one of ten places called Tregenna, which might indicate a variant of Tregenna.

Despite these possibilities, the link to Tregenna has not been conclusively shown. Further research is needed to clarify the origins and relationships of these place-names.
