From Thornham (Norfolk), Thornham Magna and Parva (Suffolk), or Thurnham (Kent), and perhaps other places similarly named, such as Thornham (Lancs).

These place-names derive from Old English þorn ‘thorn tree’ + hām ‘village homestead’ or hamm ‘enclosure water meadow’.
