Stribley Family History

Stribley Surname Meaning

Unexplained. William and John Strebylhyll 1524 in Subsidy Rolls (Chittlehampton Devon) were replaced a year later by William Stryblyne and Joan Streblyn widow.

If the 1569 record is a genuine variant of earlier Strebly in the same parish it looks as if Strebly(n) may be a corrupt form of a lost place-name Strebylhyll or the like possibly in Devon but unidentified which had migrated to mid-Cornwall.
