Occasionally a habitational name from one or more places so named including Stanborough in Bishops Hatfield (Hertfordshire) and perhaps also Stanborough in Halwell (Devon) and Stanbro in Elmstone Hardwicke (Gloucestershire).

The Hertfordshire and Devon placenames derive from Old English stān ‘stone rock’ + beorg ‘hill mound’ while the Gloucestershire placename derives from Old English stān + burg ‘fortress’.

Variant of Stanbury.
