Skillicorn Family History

Skillicorn Surname Meaning

English (Lancashire and Isle of Man): altered form of Skelhorn, a habitational name from one or more places in Lancashire named with Old Norse skáli ‘temporary shelter’ + horn ‘horn-shaped piece of land’.

The alteration is due to false association with Middle English skillinge ‘grain separated from the husk’ + corn ‘corn grain’.

This surname was taken from Lancashire to the Isle of Man in the late 15th century or thereabouts.
