Italian (Sicily): from an old Sicilian word scrima ‘fencing’ a derivative of scrimire ‘to fence’ presumably a nickname for a skilled swordsman or perhaps for a quarrelsome person.

Alternatively, it may be a descriptive nickname from Sicilian scrima ‘centre parting (of the hair)’.
