North German: habitational name for someone from Sandel (see Sandel).

Jewish (eastern Ashkenazic): occupational name for a cobbler or shoemaker Yiddish sandler (from Hebrew sandelar from Late Latin sandalarius an agent derivative of sandalium ‘shoe’).
