Saliga Family History
Saliga Surname Meaning
Slovak (Šaliga): perhaps a derivative of a short form of the old personal name Šalamún (see Salamon). Alternatively it may be of Polish origin (see below).
In some cases also an Americanized form of Polish Sałyga: nickname from the dialect noun sałyga ‘kind of dish usually made of saltbush’ or verb sałygać ‘to eat with relish’; less probably a derivative of a short form of the personal name Salamon.
This surname is mainly found in Masovian Voivodeship.
