From Reston in Coldingham (Berwicks) which is recorded as Ristun at the end of the 11th century. The place-name derives from Old English hrīs ‘brushwood’ + tūn ‘farmstead estate’.
In Lancs perhaps a variant of Riston as a variant of Rishton and Rushton. See Reaston.
