Ramus Surname Meaning
German: possibly an altered form of Remus. Polish (also Ramuś): unexplained. Slovenian (Ramuš): nickname from archaic ramuš ‘noise roar’. Spanish and Portuguese: variant of Ramos.
In some cases, possibly also French: topographic name or nickname from Old French rame ‘branch’ or from the Old French adjective ramu ‘ramified full of branches’ of uncertain application (compare German Zweig).
As a topographic name, it may have denoted someone who lived in a wooded place. See also Deramus.
