Also in Okehampton is Pudson recorded as a surname Poddesdon in 1244 and Puddesdon in 1270 and derived from a strong form of the same personal name + Old English dūn ‘hill’.

Perhaps Podehanger and Poddesdon were alternative names for the same hill.
