Pudner Family History
Pudner Surname Meaning
Probably from a locality in Okehampton named Podehanger referring to a hillside (Old English hangra) either owned by a man named with Old English Podda or frequented by toads (Middle English pode).
Also in Okehampton is Pudson recorded as a surname Poddesdon in 1244 and Puddesdon in 1270 and derived from a strong form of the same personal name + Old English dūn ‘hill’.
Perhaps Podehanger and Poddesdon were alternative names for the same hill.
