Slovenian: from an old shortened vernacular form formed with the suffix -man ‘man’ of German origin of the personal name Peter; or a nickname from perman ‘wild boar’, an archaic loanword from Bavarian German.
This surname is very rare in Slovenia. Jewish (Ashkenazic): variant of Berman and Perelman.
