Passfield Family History
Passfield Surname Meaning
From Paslow Hall in High Ongar (Essex) recorded as Passefelda in 1062 and Passefelde alias Passelowe Hall in 154. The place-name derives from the Old English personal name Passa + Old English feld ‘open country field’.
The change in the place-name from -field to -low is probably due to the prominence of the Passelewe family in Essex in the 13th and 14th centuries (see Pashley).
