Oughtibridge Family History
Oughtibridge Surname Meaning
from Oughtibridge (in Bradfield Ecclesfield parish WR Yorks) which is recorded as Uhtinabrigga in 1161 and Uttibrig' in 132. The etymology of the place-name is partly uncertain.
The first element might be from the Old English female personal name Ūhtgifu, if the 1161 form of the place-name is an error for Uhtiua-.
The second element is Old English brycg ‘bridge’. The surname was sometimes reduced to Outbridge (now obsolete) and then to Owbridge.
