Spanish (Valencia): perhaps a variant of Catalan Orenga ‘oregano’ or more probably a surname of Italian origin (see 2 below). This surname is most common in Puerto Rico.

Italian (Genoa): from the personal name Orengo of ancient Germanic origin derived from the elements audha ‘power wealth’ and hari heri ‘army’. This surname is also found in southern France and probably also in Spain (see 1 above).
