Oatham Family History

Oatham Surname Meaning

In most cases, probably a variant of Odam, perhaps from Otham Court (Sussex), which is recorded as Otteham in about 1207 or from Otham (Kent), which is recorded as Otteham in about 1100.

However, there is currently no historical evidence to support the suggestion that the surname has its origin in these place-names.

The places are named with Old English hām meaning ‘village homestead’ and an uncertain initial element.
