Mirkin Family History

Mirkin Surname Meaning

Jewish (eastern Ashkenazic): metronymic from the Yiddish female personal name Mirke, a pet form of the Biblical Hebrew name Miryam, which is of uncertain etymology, perhaps from a word meaning ‘wished-for child’.

It may derive from an Egyptian root mrj with the addition of the Hebrew feminine diminutive suffix -am (compare Maria).

The surname is formed with the Slavic possessive suffix -in.
