Mieth Family History

Mieth Surname Meaning

Germanized form of Sorbian Mět: either from a short form of the Old Sorbian personal name Mětisław composed of the Old Slavic elements met ‘to throw’ (from metati) + slav ‘glory’ or ‘famous’ (from slava ‘glory’).

Alternatively, it may derive from a pet form of Mertyn, a Lower Sorbian form of Martin.

In German, it is also a nickname from Middle High German miet ‘reward’.
