Mayman Family History
Mayman Surname Meaning
From the Middle English Anglo-Norman French personal name Maymond, a variant of Old French Maismon and Maimon, the oblique case form of Maisme (Latin Maximus); see Maxim and compare Memmot.
The excrescent -d was added in Anglo-Norman French; compare Hammond. Some of the following post-medieval bearers may alternatively belong with (2).
Occasionally perhaps a variant of Mawman, showing the same vowel change as in Daykin for Dawkin.
