Slovak name may also be of German origin (see 1 above) or in some cases a habitational name from a placename Malý Mager (Kis-Magyar in Hungarian) in Bratislava County.

Jewish (Ashkenazic): nickname from German mager ‘thin’ (compare 1 above).
