French (Larrivée): variant of Larrivé itself a variant with fused definite article l' of Arrivé from Old French arivé past participle of ariver ‘to arrive (at a destination)’ originally ‘to reach the bank of a river’ (from Old French rive ‘bank of a river’) hence possibly a nickname denoting a newcomer to a community.

In North America this surname is also an altered form of both Larrivé and Arrivé.

The original ending -é was probably changed under the influence of the French word arrivée ‘arrival’.
