Jewish (Ashkenazic): from the Jewish personal name Kosman borrowed during the Middle Ages from German Christians for whom Cos(s)mann in turn was derived from Kosmas of Greek origin.

Jewish (Ashkenazic): occupational name for someone who made glasses or cups from Hebrew kos ‘drinking glass’ or Yiddish kos ‘goblet cup’ + man ‘man’.
