Ketcher Family History
Ketcher Surname Meaning
English (Essex and Surrey): variant of Catcher from Middle English cachere ‘huntsman’ or ‘driver of animals’. It is probably also used in the same sense as the diminutive cacherel ‘bailiff of a hundred’ which was common both as a name of office and as a surname.
The cacherels had an unpleasant reputation for extortion and oppression. Americanized form of German Ketscher.
