Ukrainian Rusyn and Jewish (from Ukraine): from Ukrainian and Rusyn kachur ‘drake male duck’ probably applied as a metonymic occupational name for a poultry seller or perhaps a nickname for someone with some fancied resemblance to a drake.

As a Jewish surname, it is mainly artificial. Americanized form of Slovak and Rusyn (from Slovakia) Kačur: from Rusyn kachur Slovak dialect kačur ‘drake male duck’ (see 1 above).
