Jannetta Family History
Jannetta Surname Meaning
From a feminine diminutive of Gianni, a contracted form of Giovanni, ‘John’. The name gave rise to a word giannetta used to translate (spinning) jenny (a machine invented in England in the 1760s).
However, it is not clear whether such a late adaptation of a name as a word influenced the development of an Italian surname.
