Perhaps an altered form of the Gloucs and Somerset surname Isgar in which final -gar -ger or -gor has been changed by r-metathesis to -gre(e) and -gro(w).

The latter being re-interpreted as a casual pronunciation of the familiar place-name ending -grove.

A similar alteration explains Snelgrove as a variant of Snelgar.
