Japanese: written 井田 ‘rice paddy by the well’; also written 伊田 or 猪田. It is a habitational name from Ida-mura in Musashi (now Tokyo and Saitama prefectures). Found mostly in eastern Japan and the Ryūkyū Islands.

German: from the female personal name Ida of disputed etymology possibly from Old Norse idh ‘work activity’ or of the same origin as Old High German idis ‘(wise) woman’; it is thought by some that its variants overlap with those of hild ‘battle strife’.
